about the depot

Built in 1886, the Scottsville Train Depot served as a vital passenger and freight station for nearly 90 years. An integral part of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, this station witnessed the growth and development of Scottsville and Allen County.

From carrying passengers and freight, including oil and strawberries, to connecting the community to larger cities, the depot was a bustling hub until its closure in 1975.

The depot stands today as the primary surviving reminder of the days when rail service meant everything to the citizens of Scottsville and Allen County, Kentucky.

Engine 661 was in service from 1900-1948.

About the effort

The Friends of the Scottsville L&N Depot are dedicated to restoring this historic structure to its former glory.

With the generous support of the Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation and the Allen County Historical Society, we are working to transform the depot into a vibrant community space.

Our vision includes:

  • hosting local/regional meetings
  • community education classes
  • arts exhibits and musical performances
  • educational and historical field trips

Additionally, the depot will be restored to its original 2-story building and feature a museum showcasing the rich railroad history of Scottsville and Allen County.

Friends of the Scottsville L&N Depot Committee will diligently work toward the funding, restoring, and sustainability of the 19th century structure known as the Scottsville L&N Railroad Depot and collect, organize and preserve information and artifacts related to the history of the railroad in Scottsville and Allen County. In addition, the Committee will make efforts to inform and educate the public concerning the significance the railroad had on the economy of the city and county from the late 1880s until the mid 1970s when the line was abandoned.
